Found a cutting mat.

I have for the longest time believed that we couldn't find rotary cutters and mats in India. I just never saw them anywhere. And I never thought that I would find them at Reliance Stationery Mart on Commercial street! Can you believe it? All the while they have been sitting with these mats. Sure its a brand I don't recognize and the markings are in cms and its not too fancy but I now have a large size mat! I was trying to buy it online and have family bring it down but that would restrict the size I buy. Now I can go ahead and buy 24"X36" for a thousand odd rupees! I'm am so thrilled! :)
They also have cutters but its out of stock. But YAAAY! :) I have a large cutting mat. YAAAAAY!!!! :)

  1. Wow - I just typed up a long comment and it disappeared. Do you have family members here in the US? Are you an American living in India (I can't tell from your photo)? I found you at Quilting Blogs and Bloggers from Around the World. I have a source for really, really inexpensive rotary blades for your rotary cutter. And I was nosey and wanted to know what kind of paper that transfer paper was you just paid $50 for one piece of paper. WOW! dmj53(at)hotmail(dot)com

  2. Hey Deborah. I'm Indian. Live in Bangalore. I do have family in the States and that's where I'm getting stuff from.
I bought the transfer paper for 50 Indian rupees a piece. That's about a dollar (USD). The box actually said 545 rupees but he gave it to me for 450. I guess he would have gone lower but I have no bargaining skills at all!

  3. Hey Carol,
I had a cutting mat (smaller one) of the same company... I bought it from Pune... I have also used their rotary cutter, and it was good... I recently bought one from an Etsy Seller in Singapore... :)
    Cheers

    1. Hey... It's a store on commercial street in Bangalore... I don't think they have an online store so you may need to get someone to go there... but things have changed since I left and the mats may be available now? not sure... the big sewing machine names are in India now so Its possible that mats are available.

    1. Hi Rovina,
You're best bet would be to ask the ladies over at Desi Quilters. I didn't live in Mumbai so I don't really know but they should be able to help you out!
