100% Cotton Thread, Finally

So I finally managed to find some 100% cotton thread at Okalipuram today. It was the last box he had and apparently they have no supply for a while now. Everything is Spun Polyester. I've read that cotton thread is better and have been looking for it a while but it does not seem to be too popular here.
On my last visit I found Madeira thread! Just one spool sitting quietly with the other viscose looking thread that the girl at the store said was silk... but there it was. :)

A friend of mine shared this link on Facebook. It's from Paulo Cohelo's blog. I think I've had all the three symptoms of the process of killing my dreams. I finally took the step of moving towards following my dreams but so often these symptoms return and I tend to wallow. I guess now what it will take will be to get up and keep going.

Mountains and Rivers

New quilt in progress. I wanted to make this a double but I find that I have too little fabric. I bought 4 mts of each but only realized when I got home that the blue is a single panna.:( So I will have to try my luck again next week and see if I can find more of the same fabric in Okalipuram (highly unlikely!) or make this single and buy more for the double.
I really love the two colors. :)

The Online Quilt Block Pattern Library

Came by an absolutely great site today: The Online Quilt Block Pattern Library.

Happy Turtle

Ok. I'm letting you in on something. I have decided to call my studio Happy Turtle. The Website and Logo are in the process of getting done so I decided to hand make the label and the carry bag. :)

Need to find transfer paper

Saw this great tutorial for labels on Patchwork Pottery. The label I made for Keziah's quilt is hand-sewed. I was thinking that when I get my logo and all of it done that I would get it printed. But, this is a great idea. I need to see if I can find transfer paper here. It must be available.

The Hourglass Block

Tried the hourglass block today. Have planned a double quilt with it so wanted to make sure I was getting the measurements right. I need a 9'' finished block... so am still wondering if I should cut 9.5" or 9.75"... I cut 9.5 and ended up with a 8.75" finished block so I guess I'll have to cut 9.75" and see. Great tutorial over at the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Green Pastures and Clear Skies

Keziah's quilt is finished. I like the green and the white. Its sweet and soothing. I'm reminded of Psalm 23
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
 3 he refreshes my soul.
I hope someday she will know what that means.

A quilt for Keziah

Working on a quilt for a little girl (baby actually) called Keziah (by order of a friend who wants to gift it to her). I like that I know who will be using my quilt. I don't know the baby but her mother is a cousin of a friend. When I began the quilt I prayed - for me, to do the best job I could, and for Keziah, that it would bring her comfort, and warmth and happiness.
Making a quilt can be so many different things. :)

Calming breaths

I went into my studio this morning in a rush. I have been feeling that I have not been putting enough hours at the studio. This morning the plan was for me to wake up at 6:00am, go to the gym, get home by 10am, and work in the studio till I had to get out again for a meeting in the evening.
I woke up at 8:40am. :(
I really really need to get myself more organized. Grrrrrrrrr.
So I went in wanting to do as much as I could in a few hours before I had to come up and cook. And then my sewing machine gave me trouble. The thread was breaking and the stitches clumping...I don't know what the trouble was. Tried everything I knew - changed the thread, changed the bobbin tension - and this is post an oiling and cleaning session I did a few days ago. The machine worked beautifully on my last project and I can't understand why it would act up now. This of course, has happened before but I thought we were over that!
I also realized that I too was very tense. I wanted to finish as much as I could and so was a little stressed about it. I find that when I am worked up... errors are bound to happen. So I tried to keep calming myself down. I got some work done but the thread still kept breaking...

First visitor

My friend Lois stopped by the studio today with a little pouch she made. She's my first visitor in my studio and its great that it was her since she's the one who introduced me to Okalipuram! It was good to have her over.

Quilt Sleeves

I've been thinking about how quilters hang up their quilts on their walls or at shows and today, in the Quilting Arts Newsletter, there's a tutorial on how to make quilt sleeves so you can hang up your quilts. Isn't it great when you're looking for something and it comes to you? :)

Wall Hanging

Here's the wall hanging all done.

Made loops so it can be hung from a curtain rod.
