Happy in my Studio

I can't explain how happy my studio space makes me. Sure, I don't have anything fancy, but I have a room, with an open door and windows and space. Love, love, love. Thank you God!

Four Patch Kid Quilt

So I've begun cutting 3 and a half inch squares for a 60"X70" single quilt and man do I need a lot of squares! And I'm trying to do it with left over cloth that I already have. Not scraps, but leftovers. I have this one going alongside the wall art for Jordan. And I just began the back for the rail fence quilt. I think it helps to have 2/3 projects going alongside each other. Don't get bored of cutting 200 and odd squares! :)

Something for Jordan

My cousin is down with her family and they have a 5 year old son. I'm making something for him that could go on his wall. I wonder if the colors are too bright for a boy...I like it...but will he? Will just have to wait and see I guess.

New Speakers!

So I haven't been doing much since Sunday - my mum was ill and in hospital and we only got back the day before yesterday. I was busy with cooking for her and so on so I only went up to my studio last evening. And what do I find! Brand new speakers all connected up to my ipod and a new spike-buster. :) When I was setting up the studio we were talking about how I needed better speakers than the old computer speakers I was using and how a spike buster would help me since there were only two plug points in the room.

So there they were. Bought and set up for my birthday (which I spent in hospital with my mum)! I was so overwhelmed, sitting in my own studio, listening to music, knowing that I had people who loved and supported me enough to allow me to search for my path and take risks and do what I love to do. The speakers where a gesture (by my husband), but that I can actually quit my job at 31 and quilt full time, having only begun to quilt last year, and have a space of my own, I think is just AMAZING! And that my husband will support me, emotionally and financially, and believes in me more than I do in myself, I think is such a great gift from God. For which I am very grateful. :)

My quilting studio is all set up and ready to go. Worked for a little bit in the new space for the first time today. I love having this space to myself. The doors and windows open out to trees and I feel very blessed to be able to work there. Thank You God. :)

Infant Coverlet

Followed the binding tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company. Jenny's trick for the corners is great!
Here's the back with the teddy bears. :)

Two and a half inch binding strips.
Here's the lovely corner.

For Aaria's quilt I machine sewed the binding front and back. My hand sewing skills are not very good. But this time I wanted to do it the way Jenny prescribes so I hand sewed the back and am rather please with myself. I think my sewing got better by the time I came to the second side of the coverlet and faster too. :)

More Rail Fences

On my To Do list for the day I had - Bind Coverlet. But then I remembered the quilt top I had begun with the coverlet with the left over rail fence blocks and felt like finishing that. So here is the top. I think I'm going to try filling it with polyfill since most people tend to like thicker quilts. Have to make a trip to Okalipuram again. :)

Coverlet quilted

I quilted the coverlet today.

Didn't do a stitch in the ditch this time but used the seam lines as guides to sew alongside. Still haven't got my darning foot. Damn Singer shop on commercial street.

This is the back. Got the fabric from Ravi's Arts and Crafts. More expensive than Okalipuram and not much to choose from either. My mum used to go to Ravi's a lot when I was a kid so I kind of like going there. Bought knitting needles there recently. Apparently he's had the box for the past 15 years! Why aren't people knitting as much any more?

I used four layers of muslin this time but it still feels thinner than Aaria's quilt which had only two layers. I wonder why.

Basted the Infant Coverlet

I used AmandaJean's technique from Crazy Mom Quilts to baste my Infant coverlet. Taping the back is a great idea.

This time I sewed through.
For Aaria's quilt I worked on the bed (since that was the only large, clean space I could find) and used pins. The coverlet is all of 33 inches so I used the table. Very happy with the results.

Happy 2011

I get a futuristic feeling whenever I see 2011. Seems like the dates in the science fiction movies. Anyway, I have had a great start to the New Year. A friend called me to say she had some fabric scraps and wanted me to make it into a quilt. So I have my third quilt order.

Now I better get on those quilts!

To a year of quilting! Happy New Year everyone. :)
