Back back!

Phew. I'm so happy to be back to cutting and pressing. :) Finally the house is now livable and usable. My stuff is still packed away... I guess I'll only get my workroom in January... its ok though. Learning to quilt out of a suitcase.

I had some rail fence blocks left over from Aaria's quilt and thought I'd use them to make another baby quilt. Have to add some white sashing. So put my plain white fabric in the washing machine along with others and now have to wait for it to dry before I cut.

Then I also found the left over polka dotted fabric from the same quilt and thought why not make a lovely baby coverlet with it. So I've cut up 3 1/2 inch squares and need to wait for the white fabric to dry to start sewing.

(Deep Sigh)

It's so good to be doing this again.

And another friend who quilts!

This is fantastic! A friend wrote to me about a warehouse in Lucknow that has amazing fabric! And I find out that she quilts!!!! I can't explain how happy that makes me. Now I need to find out if she blogs too. :)

I've got space

I'm really excited about this. A room, with a separate entrance in my mothers house will be all mine come January. So I'll actually have a studio! I'm thrilled!

I can't do too much to it right away but the idea of having a space of my own just to quilt is fantastic! Can't wait!

A little depressed

I think I'm getting a little depressed 'coz I can't work on any quilts right now. :( This house painting thing takes forever. I'm afraid to just get anything started anywhere with all the dust and besides... there really is no space! I was supposed to pack away the fabric in a closet I have appropriated in my mum's house... maybe I should just do that. Some connection.

I really need to hand sew. At least practice some stitches.

Man I feel down... :(

Painted House

My mum's house is being painted - which is where I work. Everything there is in a mess! There's no way I'm going to be able to do much quilting there till the painting is done. I finished off Aaria's quilt in our small apartment but it was not easy on my back. I don't have an ironing board and have to iron on the floor and the small table would barely just accommodate the sewing machine. So I even cut on the floor which was not easy. So... a bit of a break in the quilting which is disappointing since I wanted to do more stuff for Christmas and I have a commissioned quilt on hand too!

In the meantime, I'm knitting. :)

I finished my very first quilt today!

5th November 2010

I finished my very first quilt - for a lovely little girl called Aaria.
I'm really happy to see it all done.
And I am more aware than ever of how much better I need to get. This is the first time I quilted through and did the binding so the work is not as good as I'd like it to be. But then again, it is my first quilt. I'll get better.

For now, I am mighty pleased :)

It's a simple rail fence pattern.

Did the back with this lovely Peppa-Pig fabric that's really soft and very sweet.

Need a quilting foot

I've been furiously cutting and sewing a quilt for Aaria - my friends 8 month old daughter who's down on vacation. I wanted to give it to her before she left. So worked on the quilt top till my back hurt, cut the backing (from a nice Peppa Pig print) and the batting (working with two layers of muslin) and was all set to quilt it (for the very first time in my life!) and realized that the sewing machine has a darning plate but no darning foot!
I had asked the showroom for a quilting foot earlier but they said they didn't have it and so I thought I would have to use the darning foot and for some reason did not think that it was not provided. So with my realizing this on the weekend and today being a state holiday I have to go hunting tomorrow.
Then I thought I'd just do a stich-in-the-ditch with the all-purpose foot which was turning out ok except that now I've run out of thread! Grrrr. Anyway, tomorrow will try and get the foot (my friend Lois says they have it but just don't know it yet :) I need to carry my manual with them and show them what I want) and more yellow thread. I can't wait for it to get done!
I must admit though that I almost gave up home with it. I thought a blue thread would look nice but it did not so I switched to yellow and now have to rip out some blue... :( so I got a little tired and dejected.
Then my friend calls in the evening and they have a change of plan. They are only leaving on the weekend so that gives me plenty of time to finish it before they leave. Yaay! He seemed pretty touched that I had started something for his daughter... so I should finish it!
