Fabric Fabric Fabric! :)

Sooooo excited. Went to Okalipuram today with my friend Lois and bought so much fabric. I'm soooo happy! They have great stuff and lovely prints too! Gosh I'm so excited. Another friend had told me about this place but we couldn't make the trip together. I was all set to take those directions and go on my own today but it was really great to go with Lois. Just good to have someone whose done it before and to chat with and get an opinion on what to buy. I'm so happy! :) Thank you Lois!

Fabric Hunting

So I went searching for fabric yesterday. Two friends have two markets where they normally buy but I wanted to check out the rates at good old commercial street just so I'd have an idea of what expensive fabric would be. I got some cotton nursery print at Ravi's Arts and Crafts for Rs. 60 a metre. Also bought fine muslin for Rs.35 a metre.

On Ibrahim Sahib Street the cotton is Rs. 140 a metre, but with a width of 60 inches. They had some pleasing prints.

I hope I'll be able to find something nice at these other places. Both ladies swear that its better and cheaper. Making a trip there this week if my friend can find the time from her three children. :)

Sewing Machines

We stopped by a tailors in Keylong to send a parcel home. You have to get it packed at a tailors before you take it to the post office. However, DO NOT send parcels by India Post - you'll be robbed like we were. I bought some lovely fabric from the tailor, a silk that the women there use to make waistcoats out of, and it was stolen, along with all the gifts for our family. Anyway, the tailor's shop had all these old machines.

Log Cabin Quilt in Progress

I had cut up fabric for a log cabin quite before I left for my trip. As I got closer to home all I could think of was sewing it. I didn't want to do anything else, kept my phone off for two days, didn't want to deal with work and life and all the regular things I had to do... but I did want to sew! Ah...I'm so happy to be doing this. :)
Played around with the blocks for a bit to see what patterns would emerge. Here's one. I need to make two more blocks.
And another...

And another.
I think I'll go with the first one.

Great tutorial for a Tiny Ticker-Tape Quilt

I'm making a log cabin quilt and I goofed up on the measurements. Fortunately I cut extra and not less so when I realized this in the middle of cutting I decided to just go ahead. So now I have neat little rectangles from the excess on each strip and I have been saving them thinking I should do something with them.

A ticker-tape quilt would be just great and here's the tutorial for it on Sew, Mama, Sew!
